Aires Mateus Architects is a Lisbon-based architectural studio founded by brothers Manuel and Francisco Aires Mateus. Since the 1990s, the practice has gained international acclaim for its minimalist and poetic architecture, deeply rooted in context. Their work spans residential, institutional, cultural, and educational buildings, both in Portugal and abroad. Each project emphasizes spatial and volumetric purity, where light and voids play a central role. Aires Mateus has exhibited at the Venice Biennale and received numerous architectural awards. In addition to their design work, both architects are professors at leading architectural schools. Their practice reflects a continuous pursuit of essence and clarity in built form and human experience.
