Bio / presentation

The José Figueres Ferrer Cultural and Historical Center is a public space dedicated to honoring former Costa Rican president José “Don Pepe” Figueres Ferrer, born in San Ramón in 1906. Opened in 1997 under Law 7672, it promotes culture, critical thought, and democratic identity. Located at his birthplace, the center hosts artistic, educational, and philosophical-political events. Embracing the motto “What are tractors without violins?”, it defends cultural rights, preserves historical heritage, and fosters a society rooted in peace, justice, and democracy. The center is a hub for citizen engagement, national memory, and values aligned with Costa Rica’s foundational principles.
