Bio / presentation
The Cova del Parpalló, located in the Mondúver massif (Gandía, Valencia), is one of the most significant Paleolithic archaeological sites in Europe. Inhabited between 30,000 and 11,000 years ago, it has yielded over 5,000 decorated stone plaquettes featuring animal figures, geometric shapes, and symbolic motifs—making it a global reference for portable prehistoric art. Although the original cave is not open to the public, its importance is shared through the Parpalló-Borrell Interpretation Centre, which offers guided tours, exhibitions, educational workshops, and audiovisual materials. Declared a Cultural Heritage Site, the site is managed by the Gandía Town Council with the support of the Valencian Government. It is a key site for understanding symbolic expression and daily life in the Paleolithic.
