Bio / presentation

The Coves de l’Espluga, located in L’Espluga de Francolí (Tarragona), are a set of natural caves inhabited since the Paleolithic era. The Font Major Cave was discovered in 1853 and contains the underground source of the Francolí River. Since 1956, more than 3.6 kilometers of galleries have been explored, with around 500 meters open to visitors. In 2019, a Paleolithic sanctuary was discovered with over 300 engravings dating between 15,000 and 37,000 years ago. The guided tour lasts approximately 75 minutes and features immersive museography, audiovisual projections, and virtual theater scenes. The route ends in a reconstructed Neolithic village. An adventure route is also available through the wetter areas of the cave, requiring neoprene gear, helmet, and headlamp.
