Bio / presentation

The Ojo Guareña Cave, located in northern Burgos province, is one of the largest karst complexes in Europe, with over 110 kilometers of mapped galleries. It forms part of the Ojo Guareña Natural Monument and consists of multiple interconnected levels carved by the Guareña and Trema rivers. The site is both geologically and archaeologically significant. Inside the cave, prehistoric human remains, footprints over 15,000 years old, engravings, and sanctuaries have been discovered. The most visited section includes the San Bernabé hermitage, built into the cave’s entrance. The cave is publicly owned and managed by the regional government of Castilla y León, with a focus on conservation, research, and sustainable use.
