Bio / presentation
Den Gamle By (“The Old Town”) is a living history museum located in Aarhus, Denmark. It is one of the world’s first open-air urban museums, where an entire historical town has been reconstructed with original buildings from the 17th to the 20th century. Visitors can stroll through cobbled streets, enter historical homes, shops, workshops, and offices — all recreated with remarkable detail. Costumed interpreters bring to life the daily routines of people from different eras, from 19th-century citizens to 1970s youth. The museum offers educational programs, family activities, workshops, and immersive exhibitions that showcase Denmark’s urban and social evolution. Den Gamle By is a European benchmark for historical interpretation, urban heritage, and participatory museum practices.
