Bio / presentation

The Contemporary Art Space (EAC) in Montevideo is a public institution exclusively dedicated to contemporary art and its challenges. Opened in 2010, it is located in the former Miguelete prison, a 19th-century panopticon building partially restored, preserving parts of its original structure as a historical testament. The EAC is managed by the National Directorate of Culture of Uruguay's Ministry of Education and Culture. It offers national and international temporary exhibitions, focusing on emerging artists, and develops educational and research activities. Its mission is to promote artistic production, critical thinking, and integration with related cultural institutions. The EAC serves as a meeting point for artists, curators, and diverse audiences, fostering reflection on contemporary art within a unique heritage context.
