Bio / presentation

The International Festival of Cante de las Minas, held annually in La Unión (Murcia), is one of the most prestigious and well-established flamenco competitions worldwide. Founded in 1961, it was created with the purpose of preserving and promoting the mining and flamenco songs associated with the rich tradition of the Sierra de Cartagena-La Unión mines, declared Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO in 2010. This event is a melting pot where great flamenco figures and emerging young talents gather, competing for the coveted Lámpara Minera and Bordón Minero awards. Beyond the competition, the festival offers a comprehensive cultural program with galas, exhibitions, conferences, and workshops, becoming a vital space for the dissemination, research, and safeguarding of this universal art form.
