Bio / presentation

The Gruta de las Maravillas, located in the historic center of Aracena (Huelva), is one of Spain’s most iconic show caves. Opened to the public in 1914, it was the first cave in Spain to do so. The visitable route extends for over 1,200 meters and showcases stunning underground landscapes formed by water erosion on Carboniferous limestone. Visitors can admire lakes, stalactites, stalagmites, and eccentric formations. Guided tours explore rooms such as the Chickpea Chamber, the Nude Room, and the Cathedral, all enhanced with artistic lighting. Its geological and scenic value makes it a landmark in Spanish subterranean tourism. The site is managed by the Aracena Town Council, which also promotes cultural and educational activities related to the cave.
