Bio / presentation

The Grutas de Cristal, also known as the Cueva de las Graderas, are located about 3.8 km from the town of Molinos, in the Maestrazgo region of Teruel. Discovered in 1961 by local residents and speleologists, they are part of a karst system formed in Cretaceous and Miocene limestone and marl. The 45-minute guided tour includes two main chambers: the Crystal Room, featuring striking eccentric speleothems, and the Marine Room, with coral-like rock formations. A geological timeline is displayed at the entrance staircase, and the town of Molinos hosts a small interpretation center. Inside the cave, archaeologists found the remains of the “Hombre de Molinos,” considered the oldest known hominid in Aragón, dating back approximately 25,000 years.
