Bio / presentation
The Kulturzentrum Schlachthof Wiesbaden is a self-managed cultural center established in 1994 in the former municipal slaughterhouse of Wiesbaden, Germany. Operated by the non-profit association Kulturzentrum Schlachthof Wiesbaden e.V., it is the largest sociocultural center in the state of Hesse. The venue hosts over 450 events annually, including concerts, festivals, readings, flea markets, and community activities, attracting more than 280,000 visitors per year. The complex features a large concert hall with a capacity for 2,400 people, the “Kesselhaus” for smaller events of up to 300 attendees, and a historic late-19th-century water tower. It also offers rehearsal spaces for bands, art workshops, and a garden restaurant. The Schlachthof is known for promoting emancipatory and anti-discriminatory values, functioning as an inclusive and participatory space for alternative culture, youth engagement, and contemporary urban life.
