Bio / presentation
LA MACANA is a dance company based in Galicia, founded in 2009 by Caterina Varela and Alexis Fernández. Their work is grounded in ongoing collaborations with other artists and a strong international presence. With their debut piece Ven—award-winning and performed in over twenty countries—they established a distinct voice in contemporary dance. Throughout their career, they’ve created original works (Ven, Shure PG48, Sometimes, No Title Yet, Alfa), collaborated with other artists (Cola de Gallo, Seis de Catro, Drown the Road, Invisible Wires, Together), and worked as guest choreographers for international companies. One of their latest pieces, Pink Unicorns, was co-produced with artist Samir Akika in a Galician-German collaboration.
