Bio / presentation

Founded in 1983 in Zaragoza, Cálamo is an independent bookstore with a strong cultural, social, and ecological commitment. It operates two specialized spaces—one for literature and social sciences, and another for children’s and young adult books. Known for its high-quality selection and innovative approach, Cálamo is a national and international reference. It publishes a well-regarded newsletter, hosts the prestigious Cálamo Awards, and organizes creative events like literary-wine pairings. As a cultural management entity, it leads projects such as Talento Editorial (Hay Festival) and Otra Mirada, promoting Ibero-American collaboration. The bookstore has advised on the design of major bookstores and regularly works with educational and cultural institutions worldwide. Recognized with numerous awards, Cálamo is directed by Ana Cañellas and Paco Goyanes, both involved in leading literary juries. With more than 40 years of continuous activity, it remains true to its mission: to offer quality books and actively enrich the cultural landscape in a sustainable, inclusive way.
