Bio / presentation
Located in the heart of Benalmádena Pueblo, the town's center which still preserves its Andalusian village charm, this museum is a unique cultural space in Andalusia, housing one of the most important collections of Pre-Columbian artifacts in Spain, featuring crafts from Mexico, Peru, Nicaragua, Colombia, and Ecuador. The museum's origins trace back to the private collection of Felipe Orlando García-Murciano, a renowned painter, poet, writer, and anthropologist of Mexican descent, who donated it to Benalmádena, his adopted town. He transformed his residence into this singular museum, serving as its curator-director from its opening in 1970 until his death in 2001. The museum's Pre-Columbian collection was expanded through donations and loans from other collectors, while a section was also dedicated to displaying archaeological findings from Benalmádena.
