Bio / presentation

The Dolores Olmedo Museum, located in Xochimilco, Mexico City, is a cultural gem showcasing a remarkable collection of Mexican art. Founded in 1994 in a 16th-century former hacienda, the museum was established by Dolores Olmedo, a businesswoman, collector, and close friend of Diego Rivera and Frida Kahlo. It houses the largest collection of Rivera’s works and an important selection of Kahlo’s paintings, along with Mexican folk art, pre-Hispanic artifacts, and colonial art. The museum's gardens are also famous for their peacocks and Xoloitzcuintles, an ancient Mexican dog breed. Beyond art preservation, the museum embodies Mexican heritage and identity. After closing temporarily in 2020, the museum was relocated and reopened at Los Pinos, continuing its mission of cultural dissemination. It remains a must-see destination for anyone interested in Mexican art and culture.
