Bio / presentation

The Geominero Museum is a unit of the Geological and Mining Institute of Spain (IGME), a National Center under the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) and the Ministry of Science. It is a state-owned museum dedicated to preserving, researching, and disseminating geological, paleontological, and mineralogical heritage. Its collections include minerals, rocks, and fossils from across Spain, former colonial territories, and major international sites. Through continuous research and thematic catalogs, the museum has gained recognition as one of Spain’s leading institutions of its kind. These collections also have historic value, originating with the Geological Map Commission of Spain established in 1849. For 175 years, IGME has contributed to their development through scientific and mining research, consolidating the museum's national and historical importance.
