Bio / presentation
The National Museum and Research Center of Altamira, located in Santillana del Mar, Cantabria, is dedicated to the conservation, research, and dissemination of the Altamira Cave, recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Inaugurated in 2001, the museum houses the Neocave, a faithful replica of the original cave, allowing visitors to admire the cave paintings without harming the original site. The permanent exhibition “The Times of Altamira” displays Paleolithic artifacts from Altamira and other Cantabrian caves, offering a detailed view of prehistoric life in the region. The museum also hosts prehistoric technology workshops and educational activities for all audiences.
