Bio / presentation
The Torres García Museum, located at Peatonal Sarandí 683 in Montevideo's Ciudad Vieja, was established in 1955 by Manolita Piña, widow of artist Joaquín Torres García, to preserve and promote his legacy. Since 1990, the museum has been housed in its current five-story art deco building. The collection features paintings, sculptures, drawings, manuscripts, and personal objects of the master of Constructive Universalism. Additionally, it maintains an archive with over 20,000 documents, including folios, letters, and sketches. The museum offers guided tours, educational workshops, and cultural activities for all ages. Managed by the Torres García Foundation, it has become a cornerstone of modern art in Uruguay.
