Bio / presentation
An Independent Living Office (OVI) is a non-profit organization led by people with functional diversity, aligned with the Independent Living Movement. Its mission is to promote this human rights-based approach, advocate for policies that support self-determination, manage pilot projects in self-directed personal assistance, and build peer-support networks. OVI is grounded in key principles: non-discrimination, demedicalization, deinstitutionalization, consumer control, and peer support. The Barcelona OVI was established in 2006 to implement this philosophy locally. It serves as a tool for social transformation and empowerment, ensuring real autonomy for people with functional diversity and their right to make decisions about their own lives.
