Bio / presentation
Timanfaya National Park, located in the southwest of Lanzarote, is a unique volcanic landscape created by eruptions between 1730 and 1736 and again in 1824. Declared a National Park in 1974, it covers more than 5,000 hectares of lava fields, volcanic cones, craters, and lava tubes. Its recent geology and sparse vegetation form a striking environment of great scientific value. The park is protected for its geological, ecological, and visual significance. Visitors can explore it via the Mancha Blanca Visitor Centre and guided bus tours along the “Route of the Volcanoes.” It is one of the Canary Islands’ top natural attractions and is managed by the Autonomous National Parks Agency in collaboration with the Lanzarote Island Council and the Government of the Canary Islands.
