Bio / presentation
The Laguna Negra, located at 1,800 meters above sea level in the Sierra de Urbión (Soria), is one of the most beautiful and mysterious landscapes in Spain. Of glacial origin, it is surrounded by pine forests and steep rocky walls that darken its waters, giving it its name. It forms part of the Laguna Negra and Glacial Cirques of Urbión Natural Park, known for its striking scenery and rich Mediterranean mountain biodiversity. Each season transforms the landscape—from snow-covered winters to the magical reddish hues of autumn. This unique site inspired Antonio Machado to write the legend “Tierras de Alvargonzález” in his work Campos de Castilla. Access is from the nearby village of Vinuesa, with a marked road leading to the “Paso la Serna” parking area. Depending on weather and visitor flow, access may be restricted, requiring a 2 km walk or shuttle ride. The lagoon also serves as a gateway to the Urbión Peaks, source of the Duero River.
