Bio / presentation
The Gallocanta Lagoon Nature Reserve, located between the provinces of Zaragoza and Teruel, is the largest saline lagoon in the Iberian Peninsula and one of the most important in Europe. This shallow, endorheic wetland is famous for being a key wintering and stopover site for thousands of common cranes (Grus grus) during migration. The surrounding landscape offers a breathtaking natural display, especially from November to February when the cranes arrive in large numbers. In addition to birdlife, the reserve supports rich biodiversity adapted to its unique saline ecosystem. Several viewpoints and interpretation centers allow visitors to enjoy the wildlife without disturbing it. It is an ideal destination for birdwatchers, nature photographers, and those seeking peace and natural beauty. Due to its ecological value, the site is part of the Natura 2000 Network and has been protected as a Nature Reserve since 2006.
