Bio / presentation
Sala Parés, founded in 1877, is the oldest gallery in Spain and one of the longest-running in the world that remains active. Located in Barcelona's Gothic Quarter, it has three exhibition spaces in a historic building, where it showcases the work of 35 contemporary artists. The gallery focuses mainly on painting, particularly realism, contemporary figuration, and abstraction, as well as including sculpture, photography, and video art. Sala Parés has an art collection that includes both current and historical works, representing artists who have been part of its legacy. Additionally, it undertakes curatorial work through exhibitions that highlight key episodes of Catalan art and promote the memory of forgotten artists. It collaborates with museums, universities, and other international galleries, and organizes cultural activities such as concerts and guided tours, establishing itself as a space for cultural activism.
