ufaFabrik is a cultural and ecological centre in Tempelhof, Berlin, originally founded in 1979 as a squat in the former UFA film laboratories. Today, it is a 18,600 m² green oasis open year-round, welcoming over 200,000 visitors annually with a programme that blends art, ecology, community living, and social engagement. Around 30 residents and more than 180 staff members live and work on site, fostering a lifestyle rooted in sustainability, autonomy, and cooperation. Its diverse offer includes performing arts, social initiatives, urban gardening, environmental education, and intercultural activities. ufaFabrik’s uniqueness lies in its holistic approach: a lifestyle and cultural creation model centred on community, environmental respect, and personal empowerment. Long before “sustainability” and “work-life balance” became mainstream, ufaFabrik was already a beacon of self-managed living and collaborative culture, becoming an international reference in community-based innovation.
