Bio / presentation
Village Underground is a multidisciplinary venue located in a renovated warehouse in Hackney, London. It hosts live concerts, electronic music events, theatre, performing arts and visual arts. Every year, it welcomes over 150,000 visitors, stages more than 500 shows and collaborates with over 1,500 artists. Above the main venue, four repurposed tube carriages and shipping containers form the creative “platforms” of Village Underground. Up to 30 artists, playwrights, filmmakers, architects, photographers, producers and start-ups work side by side in this creative community. The organisation is unique for its innovative business model, its transition toward a self-managed structure, financial sustainability without public funding, and deep expertise in the music industry.
