Formed in 1952, the World Leisure Organization (WLO) is a non-profit, non-governmental global body composed of individuals and institutions promoting leisure as essential for quality of life. Recognized as a consultative partner by the UN’s Economic and Social Council, WLO aligns its programs with UN goals. It embraces leisure as a transformative force, enhancing human well-being from childhood to old age. Its diverse membership includes sectors such as tourism, arts, recreation, health, and education. WLO advocates for leisure as vital to social, cultural, economic, and environmental development. The organization supports inclusion, access, cultural enrichment, and sustainable growth. Leisure fosters global civil society by enabling self-actualization, reflection, and renewal. It promotes peace and social justice through cross-cultural understanding.
