Bio / presentation
ZK/U – Zentrum für Kunst und Urbanistik is an independent art centre, residency, and research space in Berlin focusing on the intersection of artistic creation and urban experimentation. Founded in 2012 by the artist collective KUNSTrePUBLIK, it is housed in a former railway depot surrounded by the Stadtgarten Moabit park. ZK/U hosts international artists in a context that values process over production, promoting collective living, community engagement, and interdisciplinary work. It emphasizes collaboration between local and global practices, and its open format includes exhibitions, screenings, workshops, and public meetings. Rather than a rigid programme, it allows residents to redefine their work through dialogue with local realities. The centre bridges artistic expression and public life, encouraging outreach into the Moabit neighbourhood. In just a decade, ZK/U has become a unique space for creative and critical reflection on urban development, sustainability, and social engagement through the lens of contemporary art.
