Bio / presentation
Zugarramurdi Cave is the most iconic site in the town and the heart of its historical and legendary identity. Located just 500 meters from the village, this shallow karst formation was carved by the Hell Stream (Infernuko Erreka), which still flows through it today. The main tunnel is 120 meters long and up to 26 meters wide, and is famous for being the setting of the akelarres—ritual gatherings accused of witchcraft by the Inquisition in the 17th century. The cave complex also features two higher galleries with similar orientation. The site is equipped with marked walking routes and information panels that invite visitors to discover this unique space at their own pace, depending on their physical condition and available time.
