Bio / presentation

The Monasterio de Piedra, acquired in 1843 by Don Pablo Muntadas Campeny, was transformed by his son, Don Juan Federico, into a landscaped garden with hospitality and hydrotherapy facilities, including Spain’s first fish hatchery in 1867. This transformation, following the 1835 disentailment, halted its deterioration and turned it into a prominent tourist destination. The park, home to over 20 bird species, features a stunning route through waterfalls, lakes, and caves, surrounded by lush vegetation. Declared a Picturesque Site in 1945, a National Monument in 1983, and a Historic Garden in 2010, it stands as a site of exceptional ecological and aesthetic value. Awarded the Medal of Tourist Merit in 2011, the Monasterio de Piedra is now considered one of Europe’s most spectacular natural spots. Its unique geological setting and rich biodiversity create a space where nature and history blend harmoniously.
